The presentation of the Katherine M. Robert A. Swanson, co-founder of Genentech, believed in the power of individuals to make a difference. He was inspired by the genius of new ideas, challenged by the difficulty of making the impossible work, rallied by the energy of teamwork, exhilarated by success and humbled when it changed the life of one human being. Katherine M. Swanson was Bob's beloved daughter. She was a young woman whose heart, mind and spirit reflected the compassion, determination and creativity that compel today's Laureates to change the world for the better.
